Joana Reais Ensemble
Joana Reais’s group consists of Múcio Sá on guitar and compositions, Miguel Menezes on double bass and André Mota on drums. Múcio is Brazilian, born in Bahia, and has lived in Portugal for around two decades. Their passion for world music, but also Jazz, Cinema or Anthropology, always creates hours of conversation and sharing between these two friends. After some years of releasing their cherished GUARAMIRANGA – or red bird – they decided to call André and Miguel to make their sound more consistent and rich, creating new possibilities of densities, textures and rhythms.
It was in Lisbon that the four began to play together, becoming increasingly inspired by it, so it’s natural that “a Lisboa” is dedicated to the city that brought them together. Lisbon inspires and moves them, revealing itself as a sample of the group’s new repertoire that goes from jazz to Brazilian music, from fado to flamenco, from traditional African rhythms to blues.
With various paths and influences, JOANA REAIS ENSEMBLE weaves its web of complicities, overwhelming passions, disconcerting coincidences and sweet chills, making each performance a moment of dialogue between everyone on and off stage, presenting careful workmanship with daring arrangements.
